On February 15th, the Senate Education
Committee passed SB 07-131 on a vote of 4 - 3. The bill will mandate each
school district in Colorado to require 4 years of science and 4 years of math as
a high school graduation requirement. The sponsors of the bill are Sen.
Josh Penry (R) and Rep. Bob Witwer (R). The vote was along party lines
with the surprise exception of Sen. Suzanne Williams (D), a former educator.
Please contact Sen. Williams to express your
disappointment over her decision to vote in favor of this mandate. Also,
please contact your own Senator and ask for a vote which will reflect your
position when it is heard in the full Senate.
